About Nat
Professor Nat Waran has long been an international leader in advancing animal welfare science and has played a central role in developing innovative applied research and education programmes to improve how we assess and effectively manage animal quality of life. She has led the development of various successful welfare initiatives, helped guide organisations in relation to maintaining their social licence, and continues to influence animal welfare policies and practices through her leadership and collaboration in many different sectors. Her career has taken her around the globe where she has worked with various stakeholders and organisations to develop understanding, capability and commitment to positive change for animals, their people and communities.

Nat has considerable experience working on projects and with change programmes related to the production (farmed), laboratory, zoo and companion animal industries. She is particularly well known for her many contributions to the equine and equestrian industries, and her work in the field of equine behaviour and welfare, including the development of the field of equitation science and her promotion of a Good Life for Horses.
